What's in Our Scented Candles & Wax Melts?
Every Moony Flames product is handcrafted in small batches in Småland, Sweden.
We carefully select our ingredients with a focus on quality, transparency and sustainability. Every raw material is chosen specifically for handmade scented candles and home fragrance products while complying with current European safety regulations.
Our products include:
-
100% Swedish-made soy wax in our scented candles. We use Golden Wax EU464 from the Swedish manufacturer AAK. The wax is GMO-free, vegan and ProTerra certified, meaning the soybeans come from a certified and responsibly managed supply chain.
-
Rapeseed and coconut wax in our wax melts for a clean melt and excellent fragrance performance.
-
Cotton or wooden wicks free from prohibited substances.
-
Carefully selected fragrance oils that comply with current EU regulations and are used within the recommended usage levels.
All of our fragrance oils are specifically developed for candles and home fragrance products and are used in accordance with current safety recommendations. Where required by law, fragrance allergens and safety information are declared in accordance with the EU CLP Regulation.
Did you know?
Our soy wax is ProTerra certified, meaning the soybeans are GMO-free and sourced through a certified supply chain that supports responsible production and traceability.
What Is CLP Labelling?
All scented candles and wax melts sold within the European Union must comply with the CLP Regulation (Classification, Labelling and Packaging).
The purpose of CLP is to provide clear information about ingredients, fragrance allergens and the safe use of products.
A CLP label does not mean a candle is dangerous when used as intended.
Instead, it shows that the product complies with European legislation and provides transparent information about its ingredients and any required safety statements.

Why Are Fragrance Allergens Listed?
Some fragrance ingredients may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.
For this reason, European legislation requires certain fragrance allergens to be listed on the product label when they exceed specified thresholds.
This applies whether the ingredient comes from:
- natural essential oils
- nature-identical fragrance materials
- synthetic fragrance oils or aroma chemicals
Common fragrance allergens include Linalool, Limonene, Citral, Eugenol and Coumarin.
If you're sensitive to a particular ingredient, we recommend checking the CLP information before purchasing.
Want to learn more?
Many people believe that natural fragrance oils are always safer than synthetic ones. The reality is more complex. In our blog, we explain how natural and synthetic fragrance materials work, why the same allergens can occur in both, and how EU safety regulations are structured.

Are Scented Candles Safe?
When used according to the instructions, scented candles are intended to be enjoyed safely in the home.
Like all candles with an open flame, they should always be used responsibly and according to basic candle safety guidelines.
Safe Use of Scented Candles
For the best and safest experience:
- Always place your candle on a heat-resistant surface.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles away from children, pets and drafts.
- Trim the wick to approximately 5 mm before each burn.
- Allow the entire surface to melt during the first burn to prevent tunnelling.
- Avoid burning the candle for more than four hours at a time.
- Allow the container to cool completely before moving it.
Safe Use of Wax Melts
When using wax melts:
- Use only suitable wax warmers or oil burners.
- Never add water to the wax.
- Never leave a lit wax warmer unattended.
- Allow the wax to cool completely before changing fragrance.
Storage
Store your scented candles and wax melts:
- In a cool, dry place.
- Away from direct sunlight.
- Out of reach of children and pets.
Proper storage helps preserve both fragrance quality and product performance.
